Moloney Racing has a team of 6 staff overall who all contribute to the ongoing success of the  stable. 

John & Gerard, Trainers

It is little surprise that John, second eldest son and Gerard third in a line of 7 siblings decided to follow their father’s footsteps. From a young age they worked in the family business gaining priceless experience and skill in the craft of horse training. In 1981 John secured his training license and Gerard soon followed with his in 1985. Together they continued to nurture the business that had already the foundations of great success.
 
Moloney Racing relocated to brand new custom built stables with full direct access to Caulfield racetrack and its facilities after the closure of Epsom in 1999.  It is here that Johns’ experience and skill has come to the forefront.  He is currently placed in the top ten of the 2008/2009 trainer premiership season bringing Moloney racing to yet again new heights.
 
Jim, John and Gerard share a heavy involvement in all aspects of the family business, drawing on their individual strengths, skills, ability and experience, creating a unique combination that as resulted in success and ongoing consistency in their strike rate.

Gerard Moloney, is known as  “the horse whisperer”.  He has exceptional horseman skills, always getting the best out of the Moloney team. Gerard is married to Trish and have four children; Bridget, Patrick, Daniel and James.  Gerard currently trains four horses within the stable and  manages much of the day to day running of the Moloney team. Gerard also oversees trackwork and manages the food planning and preparation for each horse, his knowledge and expertise is essential to the success of the family business – he is the backbone to the Moloney team.


Jim Moloney , Horse Trainer

Jim: ”The Colonel” still holds his trainers license and keeps an active interest in the business, training one horse in the stable  “Pedrillo” and still having winning success!  He visits the stables daily and discusses the progress and development of each horse with John and Gerard, maintaining a supervisory role within Moloney Racing. To this day he still provides essential input that makes this stable so unique.

The Moloney Dynasty dates back to the 1930’s when horse trainer, Jerry Moloney won the Grand Annual in Warrnambool. His son, Jim (James) Moloney has become one of Australia’s most respected thoroughbred horse trainers.  Jim Moloney began his illustrious training career in the late 1940’s, his first Major win in 1951 with Llandrillo and fast established his famous Epsom training complex in 1956, where he went on to train arguably the greatest sprinter in Australian racing history, Vain to win the 1969 Golden Slipper.Other notable winners include:The VRC Derby – Raveneaux (1986), Caulfield Cup – Affinity (1984), VRC Oaks  – Roms Stiletto (1982), Sydney Cup – Arctic Symbol (1970), Caulfield Guineas winners(1969,1974,1975), Newmarket Handicap (1955), plus numerous other Group 1's around Australia.


Jim and wife Pauline, were also responsible for guiding many young jockeys through their apprenticeships, none more prominent than that of a young Pat Hyland who came to the Moloney stables from the western district town of Port Fairy and formed one of the greatest trainer jockey partnerships in racing history.


Nicole Paisley , Foreperson

Nicole (Flossy) has over 12 years experience in the Industry, highly skilled and an experienced rider.   Nicole rides trackwork and prepares all Moloney horses for racedays, she also takes care of all horses when travelling interstate.  Nicole is a key asset to the Moloney team.


Brenton Avdulla , Apprentice Jockey

Brenton comes from a racing background, his father is a bookmaker, so it was inevitably in his bloodline to be involved in racing in some form.  Brenton was a gifted sportsman and a highly promising cricketer, playing at top level in the under 16s.  He decided to focus on a career in race riding and shows enormous potential.  His sporting ability in his early teens appears to have prepared him for the committment, dedication and discipline required to be successful in race riding.   Brenton won the Traralgon Cup this year and is securing many rides outside the stable.
