It was a special win for all involved at Flemington on Sunday when the Gerard Moloney-trained Charisse stormed down the outside to win the BM78 Handicap for Mares over 1800 metres, with son Patrick in the saddle, and son James strapping the 5-year-old Churchill Mare, combining for their first win together at Headquarters.
Coming off the back of two eye-catching runs since her win at Sandown Hillside in July, and what was a luckless, forget run last start at Moonee Valley, Patrick’s game plan was to ride Charisse like the best horse in the race and she delivered.
Settling down in a beautiful rhythm at the tail of the field, Patrick allowed Charisse to track into the race from the 600 metres, cornering the widest on the turn and unleashing a brilliant turn-of-foot down the middle of the track to win by half-a-length.
Now with 3 wins and 3 placings from 11 starts, we can’t wait to see Charisse get out over further ground this preparation and continue to progress through her grades.
Congratulations to Charisse’s connections and all of the hard working team at Moloney Racing!
