Sent out a $26 chance, Cavellita notched her maiden win at her eighth-career start on Thursday night at Pakenham, aided by a textbook ride from jockey Fred Kersley.

The three-year-old daughter of More Than Ready settled down fifth on the fence in transit over the 1600 metre distance, and when brought to the outside on straightening, chased down the leaders to win by a nose from the short-priced favourite, Mangani.

Having Cavellita closer to the speed today proved to be the winning move, with her previously producing some sound efforts coming from the back of the field, suggesting that she will get over a further trip as she progresses.

Bred and owned by loyal clients of Moloney Racing, Meridy Taite and Julie Sampson, Cavellita is out of the stakes-winning mare Gawne and a half-sister to Milton Park, who took out the Listed Furphy Plate and Listed Sale Cup last preparation.

Congratulations to Julie and Meridy, and all of the hardworking team at Moloney Racing!
