Imperial Lad recorded the biggest win of his 35-start-career on Saturday, leading all the way to score in the $250,000 VOBIS Gold Mile at Caulfield, with Damian Lane in the saddle.
The 5-year-old All Too Hard gelding had placed at the 1600m distance on four occasions previously, and managed to hold on at the post from the stakes-winning galloper So Si Bon, who was a consecutive victor of the same race in 2020 and 2021.
It was a brilliant performance from both Imperial Lad and trainer John Moloney to back-up in such terrific order following a tough run in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap just one week prior.
Lane, who was having his first ride on Imperial Lad, was impressed with the strong pillar-to-post performance, and is confident there are more wins in store at the distance for the talented on-pacer.
Congratulations to the connections of “Sharkie”, and all of the hard working team at Moloney Racing.
