Legatus broke through for a well-deserved maiden victory on Friday night at Cranbourne, with jockey Patrick Moloney getting the best out of him in what were tough, wet conditions over the 2080 metre distance.

With blinkers on first time, Moloney sent the 3-year-old Preferment gelding straight to the front of the 8-horse field, rating him to perfection in the pouring rain, and lifting him in the final strides to hold off the Maher & Eustace-trained Fantastic Galaxy in second place.

Legatus has been ultra-consistent in his 7 starts to date, finishing outside the top 4 on just one occasion, and he has continued to improve each time he has stepped up in distance.

Legatus will end his preparation on a high and now head to the paddock for a well-deserved break, giving him the opportunity to continue to mature and further develop into a nice staying prospect for the future.

Congratulations to all of his connections, and well done to the hard-working team at Moloney Racing!
