Legionnaire led from pillar-to-post in an eye catching first-up domination at Geelong on Friday over 1343 metres, aided by a terrific ride from 4kg-claiming apprentice Shanae O’Meara.

Bouncing away from the inside barrier, O’Meara sent the 6-year-old Stratum gelding straight to his favourite role in front and allowed him to cruise along at a lovely tempo where he was happy, straightening up two lengths in front on the home corner and sailing home for an impressive 2.75 length win.

it was a special win for O’Meara who is on loan to the Moloney stable and making waves since returning to the saddle from a horrific track work fall 20 months ago.

A stakes winner as a three-year-old, Legionnaire showcased his talent with a return to form, almost a year to the day since his last win in Adelaide, and we are hopeful that this confidence-boosting win will set him up for successful preparation ahead.

A big congratulations to Julie and Meridy, and all of the hard working team at Moloney Racing!
