Trainer John Moloney travelled Flying Jess to Morphetville on April 30 2016 to compete in the Group Three Ubet South Australia Sires Stakes over a distance of 1400m. Coming into this race, Flying Jess had three previous starts each time improving her placing results as distance increased placing third (1100m) and then second (1200m) respectively. So with an increase in distance in her next start at Morphetville, John felt Flying Jess would appreciate the extra distance and she was ready to win and so she did! By 0.2 lengths paying $7.

Jumping from barrier three with apprentice Jordan Childs on board, Flying Jess jumped well and went to the lead of the field. Jordan got the Hinchinbrook filly to relax beautifully and positioned third throughout running just off the pace on the rail. At the 400m mark and into the home turn, Jordan allowed the filly to balance up and then went for home. Flying Jess reeled in the race leader Morvada and went to the lead. However Smart Manoeuvre ate up the ground and put in a massive run down the outside and drew near level with Flying Jess. Our girl showed great grit and fought out the very exciting win by the small margin of 0.2 lengths.
