Promising three-year-old, Black Opal, brought up his maiden win over 1017m at Moe on Thursday, at just his third career start.

The consistent Statue Of Liberty gelding, who had placed second and third at his two previous starts last preparation, was perfectly placed by jockey, Patrick Moloney, just behind the leaders in transit. With plenty of horse underneath him, Moloney let the gelding stride three-wide from the 600m, duelling all the way down the straight with the leader, and just managing to get his nose in front on the line in a nail-biting photo finish.

Being only lightly raced, Black Opal looks to have a bright future ahead of him and plenty more wins in store.

Congratulations to all of his connections, and well done to the hard working staff at Moloney Racing!
