Stable stalwart, Imperial Lad, unleashed the run of his career on Sunday to take out the Echuca Cup with Tayla Childs in the saddle.

“Sharkie” was rated to perfection by Childs, cruising along in his trademark-style to lead from pillar-to-post over the 1400 metre distance, showing tremendous fight to the line to hold off the favourite, Superazi, by a neck on the line.

Imperial Lad, a 7-year-old gelding by All Too Hard (X Stammer), has been an incredible and much-loved horse for the stable, with 10 wins from 60 starts and amassing almost $900,000 in prize money for his connections.

It was a well-deserved return to the winners stall after a solid and luckless campaign in stronger grade leading into the Cup, and in what was a high-pressure race, Imperial Lad proved too strong in the concluding stages.

Congratulations to Sharkie’s connections and all of the hard-working team at Moloney Racing!
