Legionnaire notched his fifth-career-win at his 49th start on Thursday night at Pakenham, leading all the way in the BM58 Handicap with 3kg-claiming apprentice, Jaylah Kennedy, in the saddle.

Jumping straight to the front over the 1400 metre distance, the seven-year-old gelding was challenged throughout running by the eventual third place-getter, however, he showed tremendous fight in the final furlong to knuckle down to win by a nose in a tight finish.

By Stratum and out of the three-time Melbourne-winning mare Matron, it was a well-deserved win by the Stakes-winning Legionnaire after having no luck this preparation running in stronger grade. We hope that he can continue his return to form after a confidence-boosting win.

Congratulations to owner-breeders Julie Sampson and Meridy Taite, and all of the team at Moloney Racing!
