Stable apprentice, Tayla Childs, has had a week of milestones in the saddle!

After outriding her 4-kilogram-claim on Tuesday at Ballarat, on the Paddy Payne-trained Ronay, she then brought up her first winning double on Thursday at Sale, including her first winner for Moloney Racing on Ordell.

Luckily still able to utilise Tayla’s 4kg claim, the 5-year-old mare was first up from a spell and aided by an astute ride from Childs, winning by just under half-a-length on the line in heavy conditions.

Settling Ordell midfield on the fence over the 1200 metre distance, Tayla let the Fighting Sun mare gradually work through her gears into the race, before coming to the outside on straightening to find better ground on the Heavy 8 surface.

A natural left-handed whip rider, Tayla was able to keep the mare balanced, and in turn, get the best out of Ordell in the final furlong.

It has been a wonderful fortnight for owners, Julie Sampson and Meridy Taite, who have enjoyed recent maiden successes with Maddox and Milton Park, and now Ordell, notching a well-deserved second-career win.

Congratulations to Tayla, Julie and Meridy, and all of the hard working staff at Moloney Racing!
