Australia Day brought many cheers and smiles for the Moloney Camp, when The Regiment brought up his third career win at Geelong, and second win in his last three starts.

Racing in career-best form, the Hinchinbrook gelding was given a superb ride by Luke Nolen in the 1500m Benchmark 58 Handicap, where he had to carry the top weight of 61.5kg.

Settling the 5-year-old at the tale of the field off a strong tempo, the heavens opened at the top of the straight for the pair, and the gelding sprinted quickly to win with his ears pricked, by three-quarters of a length on the line.

It is always a thrill to train winners for our very loyal owners, Julie Sampson and Meridy Taite, who continuously have a number of horses in work with us at a time.

Congratulations to Julie and Meridy, as well as all of the hard working team at Moloney Racing!
