Saltpeter bounced back into the winners stall on Wednesday at Sale, toughing out a tight finish to notch his third-career-win in the BM64 Handicap.

Third-up this campaign following two nice runs over shorter trips, the Pierro gelding was given a faultless ride by jockey, Luke Nolen, who was able to slot the four-year-old in three-wide with cover from a wide alley, before presenting him at the perfect time at the top of the straight.

Wandering around slightly once he hit the front at the 150 metre mark, Saltpeter showed enormous resolution once the second place-getter, Part Time Lover, got up beside him, and knuckled down to win by a short-half head on the line.

Saltpeter relished the step-up in distance to 1415 metres, and with a significant drop in grade from what he has faced in his two previous preparations, he was able to get his first win on the board since his two-year-old campaign.

A $200,000 purchase from the 2019 Magic Millions Goald Coast Yearling Sale, Saltpeter will take enormous confidence away from Wednesday’s win, and will hopefully only continue to improve going forward.

Congratulations to his connections, and all of the team at Moloney Racing!
