Saltpeter bounced back into the winners stall at Pakenham on Thursday night, taking out the BM64 Handicap over 1400 metres with Beau Mertens in the saddle.

Given a lovely ride from Mertens from the inside barrier, the 5-year-old Pierro gelding traveled superbly in the box seat and flew home on the inside on straightening to win by half a length on the line, relishing the Soft 7 surface.

Notching his fifth career win from 26 starts, it was pleasing to see Saltpeter return to form at his second-up run this time in, with his last win on Caulfield Cup day in 2021. He has now amassed almost $300,000 in prize money for his connections.

We are excited to see Saltpeter continue to improve through his preparation. Congratulations to his connections, and all of the team at Moloney Racing.
